The recently built township hall has brought about many questions regarding the leadership and direction of Kimball Township.

Several months ago Kimball Township opened its hotly debated new township hall. For several months the financing of the hall has brought many voters to monthly township meetings to express their dissatisfaction with the board’s decision to borrow over $800,000 from the water and sewer fund.

Anyone that spent any time at the old township hall, probably saw the need for a new building, or at the very least, a substantial remodeling. It was run down, filled with asbestos and a very poor representation of our wonderful township. With the continual rising costs of construction, the time to fix the problem was probably better now then later.

I had a chance to tour the new office, and was given a complete look at the facilities. I must say I was very pleased. You begin to notice the difference when you first enter the building. Instead of the narrow, one person hallway of the old building, there is now spacious lobby where more than one person can actually stand. The township meeting room looks very professional, elegant and rather stately. The old hall gave me the feeling of meeting in someone’s basement.

One of the modern technology advances used in the new building is the operation of light switches. As we walked into the kitchen the light went on without anyone touching a switch! In fact, as I exited the room I turned the switch off out of habit, and had to be told that I didn’t need to do that, as the light would go off automatically once there was no activity in the room. Wish I had those in my house.

I like many others, am very disappointed with the way the financing of the building was handled. Unfortunately, that can not be changed. The building is already here. Next year at election time you will be able to voice your opinion by your vote. For now, I’d encourage you to come to the open house for the new township office on April 30. You’ll surely enjoy the new building, and it will make you proud to be a citizen of Kimball Township.
